ABSTRACT
Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) defines maternal mortality as the death of a woman during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days after the end of pregnancy, regardless of the duration of pregnancy and the measures taken to terminate the pregnancy. The success of maternal health programs can be assessed through the primary indicator, the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR). The leading causes of maternal mortality globally account for nearly 75% of total maternal deaths. The coverage of complete antenatal care visits in Indonesia in 2023 was 85.7%. The continuous presence of midwives in villages (resident) determines the effectiveness of their services, including the efficacy of Polindes. To accelerate the development of Polindes, midwives must always be present/reside in the village and provide more services for the health issues of the local village community.
Objective: To identify the factors influencing village midwives’ visits to postpartum mothers in the working area of the Kuta Baro Community Health Center.
Method: This study is analytical, meaning it is conducted with the primary objective of making connections or analyses about a situation objectively using a cross-sectional approach. The sample size for this study was 25 people. Univariate and bivariate analyses were tested using the Chi-square test.
Results:Results of the Fisher Exact Test: There was no effect between knowledge (p-value=0.230), work experience (p-value=0.072), and place of residence (p-value=0.561), and visits by village midwives to postpartum mothers in the working area of the Kuta Baro Community Health Center.
Conclusion:Visits by village midwives to postpartum mothers in the Kutabaro Community Health Center working area are not influenced by factors such as knowledge, work experience, and the midwives'place of residence in the village.
Recommendations:To the Head of the Kuta Baro Community Health Center, please develop a program on maternal and child health services, particularly postnatal visits by midwives. Conduct field supervision to improve the performance of midwives in the workplace and increase their motivation in conducting home visits.
