ABSTRACT
Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem with long-term impacts on the quality of human resources. In the working area of Dewantara Public Health Center, North Aceh Regency, the prevalence of stunting remains high despite various interventions.
Objective: This study aims to identify the factors influencing the incidence of stunting in children under five, focusing on three main variables: exclusive breastfeeding, maternal anemia during pregnancy, and feeding parenting patterns.
Methods: This research employed an observational design with a case-control approach, involving 172 respondents (86 cases and 86 controls) selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements, questionnaires, and medical record documentation.
Results: The analysis revealed that the absence of exclusive breastfeeding (OR = 3.150; p = 0.001), maternal anemia during pregnancy (OR = 3.082; p = 0.000), and inappropriate feeding parenting practices (OR = 0.232; p = 0.000) were significantly associated with the incidence of stunting.
Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of interventions during the First 1000 Days of Life, particularly through improved nutritional education and monitoring of maternal and child health. This study contributes to strengthening stunting prevention strategies at the primary healthcare level and serves as a reference for future in-depth research.
Keywords: Stunting, exclusive breastfeeding, maternal anemia, feeding practices, under-five children
