Faktor Faktor Yang Berhubungan Dengan Kejadian Bendungan ASI Pada Ibu Nifas Di Wilayah Puskesmas Darussalam Kabupaten Aceh Besar
"Background: Breast engorgement is one of the most common lactation problems during the postpartum period and may lead to complications such as mastitis or breast abscess if not properly managed. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 20–40% of breastfeeding mothers worldwide experience breast engorgement during the first week postpartum. This condition is generally influenced by factors such as ineffective breast emptying, lack of maternal knowledge, parity, and infrequent on-demand breastfeeding.
Objective: This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of breast engorgement among postpartum mothers in the working area of Darussalam Health Center, Aceh Besar District.
Method: This was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. The population included 35 postpartum mothers in the Darussalam Health Center area, and a sample of 30 respondents was selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
Results: The results showed a significant relationship between breast emptying (p = 0.002), knowledge (p = 0.010), parity (p = 0.007), and on-demand breastfeeding (p = 0.001) with the incidence of breast engorgement.
Conclusion: There is a significant association between breast emptying, maternal knowledge, parity, and on-demand breastfeeding with the occurrence of breast engorgement in postpartum mothers. Education and support from healthcare providers are essential to promote effective breastfeeding practices from the early postpartum period."
